IGF-1

IGF stands for Insulin-like Growth Factor, a group of hormones primarily involved in growth, development, and metabolic regulation. The two main types are IGF-1 and IGF-2, both of which share similarities with insulin, hence the name insulin-like.

IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor-1)
IGF-1 is the most widely studied and plays a key role in growth and cellular repair. It is primarily produced in the liver in response to growth hormone (GH) stimulation and helps mediate many of GH's growth-promoting effects.

Mechanism of Action:
- Receptor Binding: IGF-1 binds to IGF receptors on cells, activating signaling pathways that stimulate cell growth, division, and survival.
- Cell Growth and Repair: It promotes the growth of bones, muscles, and other tissues and aids in repair after injury.
- Metabolic Effects: IGF-1 influences glucose metabolism and helps regulate insulin sensitivity, often working in balance with insulin.

IGF-2 (Insulin-like Growth Factor-2)
IGF-2 is involved more in fetal development and cell growth. It is less understood and not commonly used therapeutically.
